Leadership isn’t about rank — it’s about service, sacrifice, and integrity that endures.
Today marks 250 years of the United States Marine Corps — two and a half centuries of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to our nation.
It all began right here in Philadelphia, at Tun Tavern in 1775. From that small gathering of the first Marines to the modern Corps serving with pride around the world, this legacy lives in the hearts of all who have worn the uniform — people who have answered the call with honor, integrity, and an unbreakable bond of brotherhood and sisterhood.
My husband Mike Cassidy is a Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine — Semper Fidelis, “always faithful.”
Every year, the Marines’ birthday reminds me that the values that shape our armed forces also shape the best leaders I know in every industry.
- Honor is doing the right thing even when no one is watching — leading with personal integrity and moral courage.
- Courage is the strength to act rightly in the face of fear, challenge, or uncertainty — the resolve to move forward when retreat feels easier.
- Commitment is the discipline and loyalty to the mission, the people, and the purpose — to stay faithful, even when it’s difficult.
These principles build trust, unity, and excellence — in combat, in business, and in life.
This weekend, we’ll host a Marine Corps reunion at our home to celebrate this remarkable milestone. We’ll have Marines as young as 55 and as seasoned as 95 cutting the ceremonial cake together — living proof of the loyalty and connection that endure long after active duty.
Their example reminds me that leadership is service in action. It’s about doing the right thing, standing for what matters, and staying faithful to the people you lead.
To every Marine — past, present, and future — thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your unwavering devotion.
And to the families — the spouses, parents, children, and loved ones who stand behind every Marine — thank you. Your strength, patience, and sacrifice are part of this legacy too. Service is never a solo act, and your support makes every mission possible.
Semper Fi. Always Faithful.
